{"id":3809,"date":"2012-11-01T08:21:44","date_gmt":"2012-11-02T00:21:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.catchingfireflies.com\/blog\/?p=3809"},"modified":"2012-11-06T21:24:50","modified_gmt":"2012-11-07T02:24:50","slug":"perfect-tasting-pickles","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.catchingfirefliesgifts.com\/blog\/2012\/11\/perfect-tasting-pickles\/","title":{"rendered":"perfect tasting pickles"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Growing up my grandma made delicious tasting pickles using her home grown cucumbers and ever since then, I&#8217;ve been a bit of pickle snob.\u00a0 I buy all of my dills in the refrigerated section at the grocery store and also love a local fav, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/PerkinsPickles\" target=\"_blank\">Perkins Pickles<\/a>.\u00a0 So when we got <a href=\"http:\/\/www.catchingfirefliesgifts.com\/products\/freezer-jams-%26-refrigerator-pickles-cookbook.html\">this book<\/a> in, I thought why not give it a whirl myself?<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.catchingfirefliesgifts.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/pickles4.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-3813\" title=\"homemade pickle recipe\" src=\"http:\/\/www.catchingfirefliesgifts.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/pickles4.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"444\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.catchingfirefliesgifts.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/pickles4.jpg 600w, http:\/\/www.catchingfirefliesgifts.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/pickles4-300x222.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s what you need:<\/p>\n<p>1\/2 cup distilled white vinegar<\/p>\n<p>1\/2 cup apple cider vinegar<\/p>\n<p>1\/4 cup pickling salt<\/p>\n<p>3-4 medium cucumbers<\/p>\n<p>4-5 sprigs of fresh dill<\/p>\n<p>1 T pickling spice<\/p>\n<p>3 cloves garlic halved<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.catchingfirefliesgifts.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/pickles1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-3810\" title=\"homemade pickles\" src=\"http:\/\/www.catchingfirefliesgifts.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/pickles1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"2112\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.catchingfirefliesgifts.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/pickles1.jpg 600w, http:\/\/www.catchingfirefliesgifts.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/pickles1-85x300.jpg 85w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>In a large saucepan over medium-high heat, combine 5 1\/2 cups of water, both vinegars and salt.\u00a0 Bring to a boil, stirring several times; boil for 3 minutes. Remove from heat and let cool.<\/p>\n<p>Cut up your cucumbers however you wish.\u00a0 Place half of dill sprigs in a large bowl or 5 quart ice cream pail.\u00a0 Add cut cucumbers, pickling spice, garlic and remaining dill sprigs.\u00a0 Pour cool vinegar mixture over cucumbers &amp; set plate on top to keep cucumbers submerged.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.catchingfirefliesgifts.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/pickles2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-3811\" title=\"how to make pickles\" src=\"http:\/\/www.catchingfirefliesgifts.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/pickles2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"2320\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Cover and let stand at room temperature for 24 hours stirring once or twice, if desired.\u00a0 Place bowl in refrigerator to store pickles for up to one month.\u00a0 This same recipe can also be used to soak whole baby cucumbers too.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.catchingfirefliesgifts.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/pickles3.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-3812\" title=\"homemade pickles\" src=\"http:\/\/www.catchingfirefliesgifts.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/pickles3.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"399\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.catchingfirefliesgifts.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/pickles3.jpg 600w, http:\/\/www.catchingfirefliesgifts.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/pickles3-300x199.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Oh yes indeed&#8230; these turned out really tasty, plus they were so easy to make!
