  1. A few things I have done to become more “green” are: I bought your reusable shopping bags and I keep them in my purse so whenever I go shopping I have them. Recently I used them at Old Navy, Trader Joes, and Target… :-) I also bought recycled binders for organization. Lastly I have a Nalgene bottle that I consistently refill, I rarely have to buy a bottle of water (Only when I forget my bottle!)

  2. Of course I recylce plastics, glass and cans. I also just started buying the recycled bags and using them when shopping instead of the plastic bags.

  3. I use “green” cleaners – lemon juice to whiten laundry, vinegar for countertops. I also buy Caldrea cleaners, which are completely “green” and smell wonderful! My fave scent is Sea Salt Neroli.

  4. Some things I do are: I recycle everything I possibly can, bought a reusable water bottle, and I unplug electronics (toaster, cell phone charger, etc) when not in use.

  5. Goodmorning …
i have been trying to do a lot to GO GREEN…taking my recycled bags to grocery store and also at the scrapbooking store if she does not have to use a bag she has a free box to pick from…very cool!! also using water bottles instead of bottled water. Teaching my children to recycle.!!
thanks for the opportunity to win.

  6. I recycle everything and have begun using the all natural “green” cleaning products. Not only do they work well, but they smell much better than the chemical ones!

  7. I recyle everything, from garbage to clothing – many items I recycle into crafting projects! also use Caldrea cleaners and have my recyled, reusable shopping bags to take with me when shopping anywhere. Started my herb garden so I don’t have to by anything in a package to be recycled (except for the initial seeds) but plan to plant next year with this years seeds!

  8. I take my own reusable bags to the grocery store instead of using their plastic bags. I also don’t buy anymore bottled water. Instead I use my own container filled with tap water. It’s free!!

  9. I use reusable bags while grocery shopping. When I forget, I use the plastic bags as garbage bags instead of using the large store-bought bags.

  10. I have started to go green by biking..instead of driving (in the warmer months) to places like the drug store and library. I am also an avid recycler!
I love those recycled glasses from beer and wine bottles…so cool…and functional!

  11. I am a second grade teacher and my class and I have started a composting bin with worms so that we can dispose of food scraps instead of throwing them in the garbage. Also, we will use our enriched soil to grow plants and flowers to beautify our school environment. Happy Earth Day!

  12. Glad to see so many others doing this too – I use reusable shopping bags and water bottles, it makes quite a difference.

  13. I recently purchased another recycling bin so that I can continue recycling. Plus I take all my papers to the school I teach at to recycle so they earn $$! Happy Earth Day!

  14. I’m finally using the re-usable bags for shopping – every time! I’m pretty green already, but I started composting at my house just this month, too.

  15. I use reusable grocery shopping bags, recycle, donate our outgrown clothing, toys and books, and communicate via e-mail whenever possible. I pay all of my bills online and have even bought myself a reusable lunch tote and a pretty bowl and flatware to keep at work in order to avoid using throw-aways. Finally, I TAKE THE STAIRS rather than the elevator!

  16. I’ve really and truly made the switch to carrying around a reusable grocery bag in my purse so I never have to accept plastic bags:) Plus they are much more comfortable to carry.

  17. I’ve always recycled but now I really make an effort to do it especially at work. I also use reuseable shopping bags at the grocery store and have switched to green cleaning products!

  18. I’ve implemented several “go-green” changes to my life lately including using re-usable shopping bags for groceries, unplugging electronics when not in use and started a recycle bin for my co-workers at work!

  19. We recycle at home and I am trying to be more diligent about using my reusable bags when grocery shopping! I have them but seem to always forget to take them into Meijer with me, so I am keeping them on my seat now…….I see them when I get out! LOL!!

  20. I have purchased reusable bags to use for shopping, I use regular plates instead of paper and have switched to cloth napkins instead of paper

  21. I recycle everything possible, use cloth bags for shopping instead of plastic, reuse plastic baggies for snacks in my lunch everyday.

  22. I use reusable bags, but more importantly, since we have the recycling program in Rochester Hills, we only have 1 bag of actual garbage per week — everything else is recycled! All non-returnable glass goes to my daughter’s company, Upcycle Glass, which breaks the glass, tumbles it, and remakes it into jewelry, landscaping decor and glass fireplaces, which are the latest thing in California. — Marcia McGee

  23. Becoming Green: Nalgene water bottles, recycling many more products with Rochester Hills’ innovative single stream recycling, re-usable bags, turn off computer at night, recycle at work and turning down bags if I only have a few products and have forgotten my own bag, I can certainly carry a couple things.

  24. I have always recycled, but I pay more attention to additional things that I was not aware that I can recycle.
If I find a cool piece of furniture that someone is selling for cheap or is throwing away, I re-paint it and give it a new purpose in life!! I try to use natural fertilizers in my garden vs. chemicals!

  25. Try and recycle anything that I can. Take my bags with me and refuse to use the plastic ones. Switched to the green cleaning products. Love them!

  26. Not only do I ride my bike everywhere, which makes me feel healthy but I’ve helped my boss become green as well. He’s recycling and trading in the old company vehicle for a hybrid.

  27. I have stopped buying bottled water, I use reusable shopping bags, we recycle everything we can and don’t accept any doggie bags or takeout in styrafoam containers. We have found if you ask a resturant they usually have something else they can give you in place of the stryafoam.

  28. Years ago I started using cloth napkins rather than paper. It’s a small thing, but every little bit helps, and real napkins make even the oldest leftovers seem like an elegant meal. :) I love my cloth bags (I am SO SICK OF PLASTIC!!!) and I LOVE my Method brand cleaning products. I feel safer using them.

  29. We are using a backyard composter at home, and we also seem to be recycling more items (I think hubby and step-daughter are finally “getting it”!)

  30. A simple way to be more green is to carry an empty bag when I go for a walk in my local park or beach. I always end up with a full bag of plastic that I put in my recycle bin when I get home. Good for me – good for the environment!

  31. We recycle everything we can at home. I have a couple different reusable water bottles – one at work, one at home and one at the gym. I also use all natural cleaning products. The reusable bags are a must while grocery shopping.
    Happy Earth Day.

  32. I use all natural and organic cleaning products, I have used biodegradable diapers, and we re-use our baby’s food jars. I’m open to any more suggestions anyone has for being more green with baby items! i also posted this to my facebook page. Thanks!

  33. I don’t use plastic or paper ware any more with my lunch (at work). I bring silverware and a cloth napkin, and whenever possible I pack my lunch in reusable plastic containers. We keep cloth bags in the car for shopping trips.

  34. I have replaced all of my incandescent lights with compact flourescents. I use reusable shopping bags everywhere. And I just started plugging all of my electronics all over the house into power strips so that I can cut the power to everything with a flip of a switch. No more phantom power draws!

  35. My husband and I recently purchased a hybrid car (Toyota Prius) and I recycle everything I possibly can. We have switched all of our light bulbs to the complex fluorescent bulbs and use reusable shopping bags for our groceries. We use reusable water bottles whenever possible and purchase eco friendly home goods. I tried really hard to be as earth friendly as possibly while planning our wedding last June. Our invitations and ceremony programs were printed on recycled paper and we donated to Carbonfund.org to offset our carbon footprint for all things wedding related, including our honeymoon to Costa Rica.

  36. We use canvas bags for shopping, take our recyclables across town because our apartment complex doesn’t collect, use both sides of copy paper, turn off lights when we’re not in the room and keep the thermastat low in the winter.

  37. I recycle most everything at home–we generally have less garbage than recycling! I’m also big on refilling water bottles and turning out lights when we leave the room.

  38. I have been trying to start doing little things to help be GREEN…so I use my reusable grocery bags by keeping them in my car at all times…even use them for daily shopping, not just grocery. When i go to the gym, instead of taking bottled water like I used to, I take my stainless steel water bottle that I now refill…and of course, weekly recycling of home goods. I recently also visited my folks out of State and got them to start using their recycling bin for a lot of things they normally throw out.

  39. We have started composting and eating at least one vegetarian meal per week. On other nights, we do organic and local as much as we possibly can. It’s great for our health and the environment, as locally sourced and especially vegetarian diets cut down on greenhouse emissions.

  40. I recycle EVERYTHING – paper plastic glass -of course, plus batteries, computer parts, ink cartridges – anything and everything.
We went paperless with every vendor we can – only a few don’t offer that option.
I use reusable bags and bought – “boy bags” so my husband uses them too (“could you pick up milk on the way home honey…?”)
I don’t print out emails anymore – if they contain something I can’t live without I archive them.

  41. A few small green changes: (1) Switching to reusable grocery bags (2) Using a BPA-free water bottle rather than buying bottled water (3) Unplugging extra electronics (4) Getting my bike ready for commuting to work three times per week!

  42. I recently read that you can save on the heating bill by closing your closet doors; thus, the inside of the closets do not need to be heated.

  43. I have purchased reusable shopping bags for one. My biggest effort has been to encourage my children to follow the 3R’s..reduce, reuse and recycle. They are super recyclers!

  44. We dont have a recyclinig program at work and it drove me crazy how much paper we throw away. I started my own little bin that a lot of people use now and I just take it home every week to put out with my recycling on the curb!

  45. I take my reuseable bags to the store and after I unpack the groceries, I put them right back in the car so I always have them. I also take my wine bottles back to a local winery where they sterilize them and sell them cheap to home vintners. Also, if I go to a store and buy stuff I can carry, I will refuse the bag they offer.

  46. In college it always seems like there is only so much we can do, but I have done a good amount and inspired my friends to as well! My big pet-peeve is nonrenewable water bottles. It bothers me when every month fellow students buy a costco pack of water bottles when they could just refill them or buy a nalgene. I have become a big advocate for filterforgood.com and refillnotlandfill.com at school, and have done a program on the impact non-reusable water bottles make on campus. I got different departments around campus to donate water bottles, and ended up giving away more than a 100 durable plastic bottles. My program was really popular at a conference I did it at and ended up winning a spot in the top-10 programs. I am not the only one who feels this way, and it is the easiest way for college kids to go green!

  47. I bought a second recycle bin for a mere $6, and now fill one with paper only and the second with everything else. I also made a copy of Berkley’s SOCCRA rules, so that we now try to recycle as much as we can to reduce landfill waste. Coffee grounds go straight to the garden, plants love it!

  48. I love to feel like I am making things better for my children and grandchildren..I use reusable bags, green clearners and engery saving light bulbs.

  49. My biggest earth day contribution was having my daughter on Earth Day!!! That really is her birthday and she is proud of it. Other contributions from recycling everthing from toilet paper rolls to glass and plastic containers. We pack our kids lunches in a lunch sack with reusable containers. We are going to plant a garden in the spring so we can eat our own fruits and veggies and not have to drive to the store. HAPPY EARTHDAY AND BIRTHDAY!!!!

  50. I use canvas bags to shop (bought at Trader Joes), in season I go to the Royal Oak Farmers market as often as possible, I buy organic produce whenever possible, I use green cleaning products (but want to graduate to making my own), and I’m planning on getting a rain barrel this spring!

  51. Hello! Hey, try using a solar clothes dryer-
hang your clothes outside to dry. It will save energy from your electric/gas dryer, and your clothes will smell naturally fresh! I hang my bedding outside also. The clean scent helps me sleep better.

  52. For our mom’s club we are giving away to our members reusable shopping bags…..also I got a cool new water bottle by camel back so now I reuse my water bottle….and got two for my kids. I also buy used clothes for my kids at consignment shops….they only wear them a few times anyway :)

  53. I only use my car 2 days a week – except for emergencies – I lump all of my stuff together and shop/visit/appointments etc.on one of those two days. I use the phone and am writing more letters to stay in closer touch with friends. Also, I got out my old bike the other day and will start using it to go for groceries and the drugstore, luckily they are both nearby.

  54. This year my family has chosen to “get carded”- we all have our library cards and we use them to rent movies, listen to music (c.d.s), and check out books weekly. This both saves us money in this economy, enhances our world, and we are reducing the waste by sharing our books, cds, and dvds!

  55. I have been switching to green products around my home, doing full loads of laundry, switched all my light bulbs, and have started recycling all my cardboard glass and plastic!

  56. I use the reusable grocery bags. In fact I like them so much – I probably bought more than I need – but, that’s OK because then I can share :)

  57. Hi. Our family has been green for a number of years now. We are just glad that it’s catching on.
Some of the things we do: We don’t buy pre-package foods. We cook from scratch as much as possible. We use filtered water and reuse water bottles. Use cloth and paper bags for all shopping. and on the rare occasions we get plastic – we recycle them. We reuse just about everything we can. Now that Spring is coming I will be starting my compose again. And I am going to ask my neighbors for their pizza boxes to start some seedlings with my toddler.
    We also use Freecycle.com

  58. Hi. I posted the link on my FB page as well as passed it along to several friends on FB. As to simple changes to go ‘green’, I pretty reliably use reusable bags. I’ve been making my own cleaners from more natural ingredient. I bought a rain barrel and want to start a compost pile. I’m joined a CSA this year & have been buying locally, sustainably produced meat & poultry (some eggs & cheese, too). As we upgrade our appliances, we make sure they’re Energy Star certified – even a new light fixture for our bathroom is! :)

  59. Everything is recycled either to charities or as work rags. Used books to libraries, charities, bookstores for credit. I reuse small glass bottles to create my own juice creations. Save old newspapers and cardboard boxes for sending gifts to friends and family. Use old coffee cans and glass jars to store things or for grease. Use orange rinds, coffee grinds, etc. for the garden. Save old corks for a future fun project. Have seen a chair made from wine corks. Pretty clever. Everything can be transformed into storage containers, ecclectic collage art pieces, rags, cleaning tools (like the toothbrush). A large tomato can or soup can is used as a spoon “rest” on the stove top. Old lemons and fruit rinds coupled with old herbs can be boiled or microwaved for a nice fragrance. Look before you “leap”… that can or whatever into the dumpster….. it can have another life. People have built retaining walls, even houses from aluminum cans and plastic bottles. Be Disney-like in your imaginative approach to recycling and saving our planet. Happy Earth Day everyone.
    Denise Carson

  60. I take all junk mail, catalogs, etc. and collect them in shopping bags and take them to a nearby church that has a dumpster that collects these items. They receive money for each pound they recycle so it is a win-win!

  61. We use resuable shopping bags when we go grocery shopping and if we forget to bring them, we don’t use bags at all. I just load the groceries one by one into my car. That way there is no paper or plastic!

  62. Green is also the color of money. When we recycle, we are saving our beautiful green earth and money in our bank account. Notice the labels and cool advertising on various bottles. Use them for flowers, food storage, decoration. Turning off the water while brushing your teeth saves alot of water over time. Be diligent about your water faucets, lights, electronic items plugged into the wall. Candles are more romantic in the evening. Capitalize on the daylight hours if you are able. Be diligent about fans, air conditioning and heating as well. Look at the mess we have made since the 1950s. Time to clean up and conserve.

  63. I use cloth napkins instead of paper. Also, I make the most of re-usable grocery and shopping bags – my husband gets canvas totes from his business and they are durable and washable. Laundry detergents that are earth-friendly and concentrated (to save shipping costs) are an easy way to go green. One last change: Energy efficient light bulbs.

  64. I use reusable shopping bags, green cleaning products, and buy local produce. I make note pads out of scrap paper. I like to give my business to businesses that are spending the extra time and money to go green, like “Mind, Body, and Spirits” in downtown Rochester!

  65. i recycle as much as i can, bring my own bags when shopping. grow my own tomatoes and herbs.
and use a resuable water bottle

  66. My 1st grade class and I are recycling Capri Sun drink pouches through Terracycle where they are being made into cute beach bags, purses, and pencil cases. Plus they are donating $0.02 for each pouch to a needy school.

  67. My students are having a newspaper drive for the Fox Run assissted Living facility scholarship fund throughout the month of April.

  68. I have been making a supreme effort to waste less food at home. I bring home all the plastic containers from work to recycle, because the community in which I work doesn’t have a community recycling program. I’m trying to make sure everyone in the house is conscious of recycling efforts and we do organic gardening and subscribe to organic veggie delivery for the growing season.

  69. I have gone green by recycling, stopped drinking bottled water and use reusable bags. I also try to use green cleaning products and soaps that are less harmful to the environment.

  70. I no longer drive to work! I commute by train into the city (40 minutes). All of my basement bulbs have been replaced to energy saving bulbs. I purchased energy saving lamps (Pier 1) for my living room. Laundry is done on energy saving. Recyling is done weekly! :)

  71. I now make an effort to always buy local food products whenever possible. This may mean going to the local farmers market, getting involved with a local CSA (community supported agriculture) or food co-op (which sell things in bulk, or even growing your own! Local food cuts down on the energy required for transportation, keeps money circulating locally, and gives you fresher, more nutritious food (as nutrients begin to deplete as soon as it is picked).

  72. Well…I guess I’m not very unique! I use the reusable grocery bags everywhere, recycle everything I can, use more environmentally friendly cleaning products, and never buy bottled water. I’ve also taught my daughters (who are 5 and 8) to take showers instead of baths. They use a lot less water that way.

  73. I have been using a faucet-mounter water filter and reusing my own bottles rather than buying bottled water and throwing away dozens of plastic bottles!

  74. Every year our local soil conservation organization sells trees, flowers, plants, shrubs. We buy at least 100 seedlings and plant them on our property to promote natural oxygen production and favorable animal environments.

  75. In addition to using reusable grocery bags and nalgene water bottles, I am now recycling every bit of paper that I can, even bringing home used newspapers and magazines from work. I am also excited about my most recent project, composting! I now compost all appropriate kitchen waste as well as leaves ( including neighbors’ leaves ) and grass clippings. The composted material will be great on my new butterfly garden that is being created this spring! Green is my favorite color, and I love going green!

  76. I use recycable bags, turn off the water when I brush my teeth, turn off my c.d. player when I am done, use green cleaners, Recycle old chlothes, shoes, bottles and newspaper,we might put solar panals on our house and my dad started a bussness that makes biuldings have solar panals, wind turbines and green pluming.

  77. I have decided to do away with paper towels in my house. I now cut up and use old and unwanted clothing of mine for rags and cloths.

  78. I shop organic and use my own bags, no more plastic water bottles, clean and re-use take out containers (great to send along baked goods in) fix up and change old furniture to make new, find good homes for stuff I don’t need/want anymore.

  79. At work: I have been purchasing printer paper from Avery that is made of 100% recyclable paper. When work documents are ready to be shredded then I send all my paper items thru a recycling plant that shreds and then recycles the paper again.
At home: I been making my own soy based candles, so much better for the environment without and toxin’s(pure 100% soybean wax.) I have also been making my own bar soaps that are made of pure coconut oil. You can see some of the soaps here: http://www.kristyjdesigns.com/Precious%20Pea%20Pod/thepreciouspeapod.htm
I have also really been trying to teach my children to go green in anyway they can. We started our own garden with seeds from our previous year’s harvest. I just wish the weather would cooperate and start getting warm/nice, so we can start planting.

  80. I am really trying hard to change my family into a go green family.
From how I eat at work to how I pack the kids lunches. Its all about making small changes and making new habits.

  81. I recently switched to green cleaners…I use Helyn’s clean solutions and purchased a Bissel steam mop that uses just water.

  82. I’ve been using my own bags at the store for a long time….and I am good at recycling….but my new commitment this year has been to take my own containers to restaurants so that I can take leftovers home in them….rather than use disposable/styroform containers.

  83. I’ve been slowly switching all of my cleaning products over to “eco-friendly” products! I use Method brand daily shower cleaner and hand soap, and Seventh Generation dishwasher detergent and dish soap. I also try to buy recycled paper products, like toilet paper and notebooks, whenever possible! Thankfully, a lot of the stores in the area stock eco-friendly (and affordable!)products, which makes it much easier!

  84. I enjoy coffee with my Splenda. I use 3-4 packets with each cup. I was throwing the empty packets in the trash. Recently, I started saving all the empty packets and now add them to the pile of papers to be recycled at end of the week.

  85. We do a lot of recycling at home, and I have started at work too. We also have our electronics that have “stand-by” lights connected to a power strip, so we can turn those off when they are not in use.

  86. I recycle and I now use reuseable shopping bags which I think is going green I need to get in the habit of turning off my computer every night.

  87. Going green is something that is very important to me. I have implemented a recycling program in our office. I take up to 3-4 bags a week of all kinds of recycling items home with me. I recycle everything from water bottles, used pens, to the little plastic roll from the adding machine tape. You name it & I take it home to recycle. I even collect the paper from the shredder & take that too. My husband had to buy another recycling bin because we have too much between work stuff & our home. It is just my way of doing my part to insure that my niece & nephew will grow up on a healthy earth. :o)

  88. The biggest but most simple green change I’ve made has been to replace all my lightbulbs with energy efficient bulbs in the house. I no longer buy bottled water and I’ve been recycling all my plastics and glass for the last five years.

  89. I work in a law office and one of the biggest concerns of mine is the amount of paper we go through in 1 day alone! On top of that, we are constantly throwing out papers that were “mistakes.” I started saving all of these and using the back sides to make notes on things or correspond with others in the office! It has worked out great and I dont feel as guilty throwing them out when im done!

  90. I walk as many places as possible, changed to the crazy looking light bulbs, and turn off the computer when not in use!

  91. Every light in the house is now compact fluorescent. We are growing all of our own organic vegetables, feeding the soil with our own homemade compost. And now that the weather has turned again, I get to start riding my bike to work!

  92. I keep the reusable grocery bags in my car under my purse so I don’t forget them when I go into the store. I love using them — as a bonus, they’re so much nicer to use than either the paper or plastic bags!

  93. All local, all the time = green! I take green to mean sustainablility. From local fruits and veggies to local shops and banks. I try and keep that in mind with all my purchases. Keep the $$$ circulating in our neighborhoods and ensure our livihood into the future!

  94. I have started recycling everything I can. I also use reusable bags when I go grocery shopping or to the drug store.

  95. I have done things at both work and home. At work, I order as many of my office supplies as recycled as possible (clipboards, paper, binders, ect.) We have also started a recycling program, recycling all paper from plastic and our ink cartridges!
At home I bought all new energy effecient light bulbs, environment friendly cleaning products, we no longer use paper plates. We have been using re-usable bags for shopping for what seem like forever!
I have shortened my showers to 10 minutes (they were 30!) We always make sure to not leave lights on when we’re not in the room or not at home and ALWAYS turn the heat/air down when not at home too!
Last but not least, no more bottled water, we have a water purifier container we fill in our own sink!

  96. we recycle as much as possible at home. Now because of waste management we finally have a container to hold of of it! We are also using the cardboard egg cartons to plant seeds along with using left over coffee grounds in the house plants.
Try asking your local Starbucks or any coffee shop for their old grounds. They work great in the garden.

  97. We recycle aluminum cans, and I re-purpose lots of throw-away things in my artwork. (Cardboard, paper, aluminum foil, etc.) I always reuse mailing boxes and packing materials whenever I have a shipment. I also try to combine all my errands in one outing whenever possible–saves time and gasoline.

  98. I recently became a vegetarian! It’s a lifestyle change that saves a lot of water, land use, energy, etc. The animal industry emits a lot of greenhouse gases and uses tremendous amounts of energy, and choosing not to eat meat can make a difference.

  99. We recycle at my house, and I have brought over city recycling bins to 3 friend’s houses in my attempts to force them into good recycling habits. I keep reusable bags at my house and in my car so I always have them for those unplanned stops at the store.

  100. Hi, we use re-usable bags at the store, we also, keep a bucket under the faucet in the kichen and while waiting for warm water, we fill it and use it for the plants. We have been composting for 3years now and are thinking of turning our front yard into a vegetable garden to go with the back yard.

  101. I have been trying to do a lot to become more green. We changed all our light bulbs, are in the process of insulating our home, I use reusable shopping bags, recylce anything I can, no more buying bottled water and most recently went to green cleaning products.

  102. I bring my own grocery bags and make my own household cleaners. Also, I bought a stainless steel water bottle for me and my husband!

  103. my mom and me recycle everything that could possibly be recycled. we started being very cautious about the things we throw in the garbage and things we recycle. My mom and dad recycle their coffee cups and reuse the Ziplock plastic bags.We also recycle the ink cartridge from office max. My mom does all her bills on Line and got most of her bills by emails…no more papers!
Happy Earth Day and Let’s GO Green
    The Green Buddies

  104. I use the reusable bags when ever i shop. I also now recycle my plastic bags. You can do that at any Meijers or Wal-mart.

  105. We began using cloth diapers with our son when he was born. He is now 2 1/2 and almost out of them, but he’s been in cloth from the get-go! We also use a rain barrel for watering our garden in the summer and a compost bin for our food scraps. Happy Earth Day!

  106. I’ve gone green by using a nalgene bottle instead of buying bottled water. I also recycle within my house by reusing any plastic shopping bags I get as trash bags for the bathroom and doggie clean up bags when we walk the dog.

  107. i use a water bottle at work, instead of a stryfoam cup everyday, turn off the lights in the bathroom at work, i use reusable bags for shopping, we recycle at home, i follow follow my mom’s lead, who used to make my dad, take all of their recycleables to the city recycle center so there would be an earth for their grandchildern. HAPPY EARTH DAY

  108. Being 15, its kinda hard to push an entire family to “go green”. So, because I know my parents won’t go for all-solar power and an eco-friendly car,I do as much as I can. I gather plastic bottles at home, school, the neighborhood streets and take them to be recycled. I also use eco-friendly cleaning products when doing my chores. I think its the small stuff that counts.

  109. Outside of many of things already listed here, lights, recycle whatever we can, compost, don’t run water unnecessary. When my goldens and I walk, we carry plastic for anything we left behind, but we also will pick up paper and trash in doing our small thing year round.

  110. I have followed the reduce, reuse, recycle mantra for years, but recently have begun to help others follow it too. I am a teacher, and I now bring a bag to class to collect students’ recyclable bottles and cans.

  111. We have been using reusable shopping bags for about 10yrs or so now for grocery shopping and when the weather is nice we will sometimes walk to the grocery stores & other stores rather than taking the car.We recently started recycling glass, plastic, metal etc at home. We have switched some of our light bulbs to compact fluorescent bulbs and have other lights on dimmer’s to reduce the energy needed when on. We have been composting the majority of our yard waste and vegetable scraps for many, many years also.

  112. I’m definitely using reusable shopping bags. I recycle as much as possible, and encourage others to do it as well!

  113. I have urged people to recycle their patio or wicker furniture by adding new pillows to them, just don’t throw things away because there dirty or broke, try to fix them first.
