boho bedroom for our swedish daughter
This extra bedroom in our home has always been a catch all space housing various things ranging from a treadmill to ironing board so when we decided to host our fourth exchange student this school year it gave me the perfect excuse to get this room looking cute. Our previous international daughters stayed in the room where Lolo’s nursery is now and it was much easier to fill up with furniture to create a comforting .

This adorable grey fur ball entered our lives in the summer of 1998.  I was working at a wonderful day camp at Humane Society of Huron Valley and part of the camp activities included playing with some of the puppies and kittens that were up for adoption.   After just one day on the job, I knew this little lady needed to come home with me.  After a quick conversation with Steve,  we decided to adopt her on Tuesday. .

I like exchange students
Three years ago about this time Steve & I made the decision to host our very first exchange student.  It was a little scary and exciting all at the same time considering it had been just us two since we tied the knot over 10 years ago.   Now we are happy to say our little international family consists of three lovely European daughters… Tessa, Jule and Iitu. It’s been over a month since .

Inspired by our little trip to see tropical butterflies this spring, we decided to plan a summer window around these pretties. After some google image searches and a few cartridges of color ink… we created our own colorful flock. Our Finnish daughter, Iitu is returning home soon, so I couldn’t pass up utilizing her mad skills for creating clever dresses out of plastic table cloths. We added these great play wings available at our .

The cupid calls have been rolling in so we had to get our window gals ready to do some serious deliveries next month! Luckily our Finnish daughter, Iitu can transform plastic tablecloths, tissue and tulle into fanciful frocks that are cupid approved. Add some flying love letters… some pretty priority mail boxes… and voila ~ window number one is done! Now for a quick break to pet Piper, our super soft unamused shop cat .

Creating clever and fun Christmas cards is sorta my thing.  I take it on as a creative challenge from year to year always fearing I will someday run out of ideas.   Luckily my international daughters have been my inspiration the last few years with our campy Christmas sweater picture and also with our fun North Pole photo booth. The spark for this year’s card was ignited when our Finnish exchange student, Iitu started .

I recruited our Finnish daughter, Iitu to help me with the Berkley windows this holiday season and I found out she is quite the talented dressmaker! With just a couple plastic tablecloths, a string of beaded garland and some tinsel… she transformed it into a festive frock! I wrapped of the lady on the right with some snowflake paper and added a box exploding with festivity for the main window. Iitu is all about .

I needed to make an easy-to-eat treat for a little Halloween party and was originally inspired by these but I decided to put my own spin on  it. Here’s what you need to make the cookies: white or party rainbow cake mix 1/2 cup oil 2 eggs food coloring Simply mix all these ingredients together and bake for 10-12 minutes at 350 degrees. Now for the decorations: mini oreos m&m’s red food dye other .

a toast to great neighbors

a toast to great neighbors
Once September arrives we like to host a little backyard party for the neighborhood.  It’s a great time to reconnect and catch up on summer adventures.  Everyone brings a little something to snack on and here’s what we served up. This festive recipe for ladybug crackers called for black paste food coloring that I couldn’t find so super small diced olives had to work for the spots.  Luckily Iitu is the master of splicing .
