pretty sounds of pomplamoose

pretty sounds of pomplamoose
Found this fun musical duo from my friend & fellow tweeter, Catherine Hilker.  One of my favorites is their cover of September by Earth Wind & Fire.  Their video style is very entertaining and I love his dancing grandma. Jack Conte and Nataly Dawn started making music together in the summer of '08, and decided to form a band. Pomplamoose thus represents the collaborative efforts of the two afore-mentioned musicians. It also means grapefruit .

yacht rock brought to you by catching fireflies

Even though we have over fifteen 8 hour playlists on our ipod for catching fireflies, our team still asks for fresh selections.  So during my last itunes buying blitz, I decided to add a lovely mix of what affectionately has been dubbed ‘yacht rock’.  Have yourself a listen and you too may be singing the sweet sounds of the 70’s…   Like re-discovering classic tunes to groove to?  Simply subscribe to this blog and .

hitsville inpsired tunes for 2009
Mr. John Mayer recently raved about this retro hipster on twitter and I have to say I agree. Mayer Hawthorne grew up in Ann Arbor, Michigan, just outside of Detroit, and vividly remembers, as a child, driving with his father and tuning the car radio in to the rich soul and jazz history the region provided. “Most of the best music ever made came out of Detroit,” claims the singer, producer, and multi-instrumentalist, who .

dancing in the daylight

dancing in the daylight
I stumbled across this cute duo while browsing for some other songs on itunes and now their track Daylight is at the top of my favs.  It's the kind of tune that makes you want to skip down the sidewalk… which I whole-heartedly believe we all need to do more often. A review from Spin reads, "Matt and Kim (their real names) come on like a punked-up Mates of State — a couple so .

passion pit

passion pit
When Steve & I were dining in NYC, this catchy song came on and since I don't have one of those fancy phones that can recognize music and tell you who's singing it, I quickly made my way to the bar to see who it was. Turns out it was Little Secrets by Passion Pit… A review reads, "Lead singer Michael Angelakos and his merry sidemen play with a verve that traces back to .

sweet summer days

sweet summer days
Finally got to the theater this weekend to see this delightful film.  I dragged Steve with me (even though it's a bit of a girly movie)… but he ended up liking it and I loved it – especially the music. I mean who can resist a Hall & Oates inspired dance scene – complete with a cartoon bluebird!? I swear these 80's hipsters have some of the catchiest tunes around! I also dig the .

grizzly bear (not the campin’ kind)

grizzly bear (not the campin’ kind)
I cannot get enough of Grizzly Bear's latest release, 2 weeks.  So if you see me singing "aoho-aho-ahoa" around the store, know I'm not going crazy:) A review reads, "The neo-classical precision of Grizzly Bear’s music—the feeling that its choral harmonies, woozy orchestrations, and slippery waltz signatures aren’t just written, but composed.  It’s like hearing the past few centuries of music playing in symphony, which sounds—thrillingly and reassuringly—like the future." by Sean ONeal Like .

remember lite brite?

The Fincannons introduced me to one of Atlanta's popular local bands, YOU and I was amazed by their latest music video – Movie Kiss. It contains more than 2,400 unique Lite Brite images animated together!  Now that's artistic patience. off to lake michigan

off to lake michigan
Steve and I are dusting off our art fair tent and headed west to Saugatuck & South Haven this weekend to sell our handmade paper wares.  And as I was sprucing up my itunes library for the road trip, I came across this catchy tune by Rogue Wave. I can’t say the lyrics make much sense to me and these Oakland, CA boys only mention Lake Michigan twice in the song… however I’m still .

vampire weekend

vampire weekend
Mansard Roof by Vampire Weekend has been in Sara's top playlist lately.  It is really feel good music and unlike anything I've heard before.  They are managed by the same guy as the White Stripes and I think they have a similar edginess and unique flair.  I often can't pick out what instrument they are using!  What I thought was a steel drum is actually an electric guitar.  Take a listen and you'll be .
