dreamy music & whimsical windows
I spent my Sunday afternoon paintin' up some pets, banners and stapling together over 50 feet of paper garland for our new store windows. While listening to some XMU indie rock and this dreamy song by Beach House came on… I will admit the video is a bit bizarre – but I guess most dreams are. Now off to Office Depot tomorrow morning to pick up the last few props… stay tuned to see .

a sunny afternoon at pinwheel bakery

a sunny afternoon at pinwheel bakery
I was lucky enough to take an extra long lunch last Friday and catch up with my artist friend, Siouxsan Miller.  We met up at the lovely Pinwheel Bakery in Ferndale – which we both agreed, if we owned a bakery… this is what it would look like. Aren't these Valentine windows so sweet?   I had the tasty Mediterranean Mix sandwich for lunch and selected a key lime bar for dessert while Siouxsan .

Remember rebus valentine messages?  And we've been busy making lots-O-valentines and need your help to make even more! Since we specialize in making days brighter, we thought it'd be nice to surprise some seniors in nearby assisted living homes with Valentine cards.  So we invite you to pull out some colorful paper, markers, scissors and glue to help us add to our collection.   And when you bring in 3 or more handmade Valentine .

A Very Witty Holiday
Another window tour stop included Barneys. We strolled by after hours and noticed there was a private party going on and a few minutes later, Tina Fey & art director Simon Doonan were outside admiring the windows! Just another reason I love New York… You never know what the day may bring. All the Barneys windows paid tribute to 35 years of SNL.

My inspiration for the Berkley holiday windows this year came from this sweet card by Curly Girl.   And boy-oh-boy, do we have loads of lovely real mittens this season… but more about that on a later post. It's a lofty wish, but one that will always be on my list.  After reading about the story of Sadako and the origami peace cranes, I thought they'd make a perfect backdrop to my display.  However .

what if gifts grew on trees?

what if gifts grew on trees?
On second thought… I'd be out of a job, falling gifts might not feel so swell if they landed on your head and we'd need a lot of 'leaf' bags come fall ;) Wow… we can't believe how times flies!  Looking forward to the next 9 great gifting years.  Remember to SAVE-the-DATE for our big birthday party on Saturday, Sept. 26 – 20% off the the whole store plus sweet treats all day long!

window watching at anthropologie

window watching at anthropologie
Before I returned back home from the gift show, I had to swing by the Anthropologie near Rockefeller Center to see what they cooked up for their summer window displays… I love how the hose is squirting out blue paint onto the colander/bowl sprouts.   And the flurry of flowers is made from cut up soda bottles… as well as the leaves.  They are always coming up with clever ways to transform the ordinary .
