spring soiree

spring soiree
In this busy world filled with text messages, facebook status updates and now, tweets – sometimes good old-fashioned conversations get lost in the mix.  And as much as l enjoy the convenience of communicating via a keyboard, Steve & I decided to swing it old school by hosting a little neighborhood get-together this spring.    We make it simple by having odd house numbers bring an appetizer and even house numbers bring a dessert, then .

the ‘born to be wild’ basset waddle

the ‘born to be wild’ basset waddle
We adopted our Basset Hound, Gus last June from the Ohio Basset Rescue and he truly has been a fantastic addition to our family.  He comes to the office with us everyday and always gets our staff to grin. We were excited to support the oh-so-popular annual  Michigan Basset Rescue waddle fundraiser this past Sunday in downtown Birmingham… and what an entertaining day it was.   It was so funny to see 400+ Bassets in one .

steve’s surprise birthday afternoon

steve’s surprise birthday afternoon
My husband, Steve has been casually looking for a fedora for a while (somewhat influenced by Mr. Costello)  But the problem is that he has a very large head so the search has been unsuccessful.  So for his birthday, I surprised him with a visit to Detroit's Exclusive Hatter – Henry the Hatter.  And low and behold – turns out Steve's head is a size 2x… but luckily they carry that size and now Steve is a-stylin. .

cruising the 101

cruising the 101
Since we were already in California for the cruise, afterwards we rented a car for a couple days and explored some sweet beach towns on our way down to San Diego.  Nothing like driving down the 101… one of my favorite highways. As recommended by my friend Michelle, we made our first stop in Encinitas.  I love the extra little touches in their city scape… who knew trash cans could be so artsy? and the .

the fun fincannons

the fun fincannons
One perk about attending the Atlanta gift show twice a year is that we get to see our artist friends, Paul & Karen Fincannon.  They always take us to a hip restaurant and catch us up on what's shakin' around the south… like Paul's latest fascination – The Big Green Egg.   Steve & I originally met Paul & Karen when they lived in Michigan and we were both doing the local art fair circuit.  I love her .

delicious dishes, plates and bowls

delicious dishes, plates and bowls
This is the 3rd time we've exhibited next to R. Wood Studio during the Atlanta Gift Show and this year I finally broke down and indulged in a few of Rebecca's hand molded place settings and serving dishes.  The color tones, organic shapes and feel of these pieces are just amazing.  I can't wait to start using my one-of-a-kind set on a daily basis.     And just another reason I love being around other artists… look at her handmade .

fun fall festivites

fun fall festivites
I forgot how fun it was to carve pumpkins until we invited a bunch of our friends over for a festive fall potluck. Hotdog mummies won the prize for the most creative dish. How cute are these for quick dinner before taking the kiddies out trick-or-treating? One of the dessert choices were smores… via our fireplace.  Our handy dandy extendable forks are quite useful for this activity. (in my opinion, this treat is simply .

berkley metromode feature

Recently I was interviewed about our great little town, Berkley for the oh-so-hip metromode online magazine.  Berkley has been a fanstastic home for catching fireflies.  Our 8 years there have flown by and we look forward to many more.

I’ve been bit by the fall knitting bug

I’ve been bit by the fall knitting bug
I took a community ed. knitting class about 12 years ago during my college days.  I had big plans to knit this fantastic sweater, however my lack of patience and desire for quick results got in the way… hence I ended up with a lonely sweater sleeve. One thing that hasn’t changed in 12 years is my love for rich colors and scrumptious textures.  So when I stopped by Berkley’s cozy knit shop, Have .
