diy street fair in ferndale

diy street fair in ferndale
Steve and I strolled the DIY Street Fair in Ferndale this Sunday and found a few fantastic artists/entreprenuers… like Gina Adams-Levy of Peace Love & Pots. This spring/summer she launched a successful flower pot/tray recycle program at the Northville Farmers Mkt, collecting over 500 lbs. of plastic, HALF of which was returned to appreciative farmers and the rest recycled! She also creates these 100% recycled garden flowers by cutting & painting various plastic containers.  .

fantastic fritatta fare

fantastic fritatta fare
Looking for a cozy breakfast nook with fantastic food?  Make your way over to Clawson’s Fritatta at 236 S. Main Street,  (248) 280-2552.  Steve and I stopped there last Sunday afternoon and were delighted with our dishes. I had a vegetarian fritatta (an Italian omelet) topped with fresh greens and drizzled with vinaigrette … ummmm – so tasty! And Steve had a wonderful chicken & Brie sandwich on foccacia bread with a delicious risotto .

My mom has made it a tradition to come visit me the first weekend of September and we spend the day together in Rochester at the Art & Apples Festival.  Here are few pics of the day… Aren’t these designer pumpkins fantastic?  Apparently Bob from Backyard Bouquet Farm created this snazzy variety by mixing pumpkins & winter squash.  They’re also known for their gorgeous sunflowers. My mom & I both bought these spider stands… .

Steve and I escaped to sweet little Saugatuck over Labor Day weekend and took the historic chain ferry over to beautiful Oval Beach. After basking in the sun for a while, we headed back into town and visited a few of my favorite shops including… good goods and Amsterdam Art & Oddities Then we drove by this gem of a cottage that was for sale just a couple blocks from downtown. Now doesn’t that .

meeting mo rocca

meeting mo rocca
One of our evenings during the New York Gift Show we made our way to a Pinkberry (a delicious plain frozen yogurt I can’t get enough of) in the West Village.  And during our dining experience, funny-man Mo Rocca made his way into the building. Being fans of NPR’s Wait Wait Don’t Tell Me Quiz Show and CBS Sunday Morning, Steve & I recognized him right away.  Nobody else in our group knew who .

making fun new friends in the city

making fun new friends in the city
One very fun thing about doing wholesale shows is meeting new friends.  My friend, Michelle introduced me to the lovely Texan duo of Cutting Up.  They create inspiring colorful intricate collages and offer them on all sorts of things like tees, belt buckles, hats and necklaces.  Here are a few of my favs… We (Michelle & Katie, Amy Peters and Jo Dee & Colleen) all went out for Thai in Hell’s Kitchen and had .

Back in New York City for the summer gift show and you know what that means (well, new goodies for the stores) but also – Anthropologie windows…. They have this sea-scape shell-barnacle theme going on and all of them are made from a large variety of cupcake-like liners. … a close-up of these shell-like pretties … small strips of sheet-like material create a calm ocean-scape background for these delightful outfits … love this one .

2nd row center – how sweet it is

2nd row center – how sweet it is
Steve & I headed down to the beautiful Blossom Amphitheater near Cleveland, Ohio to get our summer dose of Mr. John Mayer. Being part of the fan club certainly has it perks.  We landed the most amazing tickets.  Seeing a large show this close and personal was such an incredible experience. Some of my favorite moments of the evening included… a wonderful acoustic cover of the Tom Petty classic, Free Falling a swinging soul .

To celebrate catching fireflies winning Best Gift Shop, the gals and I (and Steve) kicked up our heels at the oh-so-glamorous Best of Detroit Party which took place in the new MGM Grand Casino. Here’s the team that makes our little store shine!  From left to right you have… Steve & me, Dena – Rochester location, Cheryl & Danielle – Berkley location and Sara – website sales. The evening began with many tasty morsels .

a saturday in motown

a saturday in motown
Steve and I spent our Saturday afternoon in the historic district of Detroit.  First perusing all the fantastic pottery & tiles at Pewabic House & Garden Show (that’s still going on this Sunday) Some of my favorite collections included these amazing cups, bowls and plates by Liz Kinder. These colorful city scapes are done by Linda Buck who resides in Berkley, Michigan.  So much talent… (right in our backyard) Suzanne Vitti has a fun .
